Exercise - Your own work.
For this first exercise, I am going to look back at my work and write what elements I did enjoy. I am going to look at my work now and make a gallery of the things I enjoyed:
These are some of my work that I have picked out of elements that I enjoyed. Below are my reasons for each artwork and want part I enjoyed:
1 The composition and the fun characters.
2 My lettering that I cut out of my paper pumpkin.
3 Creating this flower and using tissue paper on the petals. When put to the light it glows through reminds me of glass windows cool effect for the flower experiment.
4 By using objects and rearranging them you can create some creative ideas which are fun and different, great to help creativity and ideas.
5 Viperfish looking at negative space I created this with paper and I feel it has good composition and narrative.
6 I enjoyed adding feathers to my ostrich, makes the image more different and interesting with added texture.
7 I do really enjoy doing line art and want to pursue this further. how can I use this in 3d paper art?
8 I enjoyed the soil detail on the hole with worms etc. I also like my composition here and that it's interesting to look at.
9 I like this cat lady I created it is something different then I usually do, she's pretty and maybe I will try to make more animals in a human way in my sketchbook to test this out.
10 This was really fun collage to do. I enjoyed just being creative and using a theme. I used snippets that I had. I also like how I used Posca pens and pastels to add detail on to the newspaper.
11 I enjoyed using colour pencils to create this realistic lizard. I think the tones and detail are very good.
12 Making a whole image the silhouette of my jazz man with drums was really good to see the final outcome it was very effective.
13 I had fun with this exercise being abstract whilst listening to music I created some good images and the final outcome I made it out of paper.
14 The also reminds me when I used feathers with the ostrich as this again with the kitten with his ball of wool also adds texture and makes illustration more interesting.
15 My imagination made me come up with this spirit lion I do like this idea and would want to make a few different animals this way as spirit animals perhaps in paper ?
16 A realistic sketch of a wolf, I think this is one of my best sketches and is very realistic it was of a wolf when I was at a zoo I really think I captured him well.
17 These illustrations I created by just ripping paper and creating something from using my imagination from the bits that were in front of me. I will be doing some of this again and I also enjoyed scrunching up the paper on the background of the seahorse, it makes a great background texture.
18 I enjoyed this as there was a lot of paperwork in it and to see it all come together was a joy. I have had some feedback about its composition and the white background but I know I did a good job and could of done better if I looked at the composition and text more at the start. I have took the critique on board for my next artworks.
19 This Octopus was also great to do working out the layers of his tentacles was interesting and final result came out well
20 This was interesting using pastels on black paper was very effective. I liked how I created the glow of the lantern. It ended up looking really bright on the paper.
21 These characters were good fun to do from sketching out ideas and then to see them come to life out of paper was really special and made me feel I am going in the right direction with my paper art.
22 I like the texture of the sea and the colour full image I created, using paper, it works really well.
23 This was my first attempt on Photoshop after being on a course for it I liked the different tools you can use to create am image. Good to know and see how can use it in my own work. I need to be careful not to loose my style which is important when going digital.
24 I really like my toucans I think there fun and very pleasing to the eye. I even redid him as a 3d sketch and that is a good element. I want to remember to sketch and then build up layers to make a 3d sketch.
25 I had really fun on this exercise making collages and experimenting It was fun and got to use my imagination a lot
26 This was one of my first paper illustrations I really liked my outcome and I also turned it in to grey scale which I also liked and want to experiment with this in the future as an idea.
27 These are some more birds I created (have I got a thing for birds?) I liked my use of feathers and the way I created the trees. I still feel I could work on these further and to a exhibition of paper birds.
28 I recently started doing pet portrait made out of paper for commissions. I am getting quite a few orders and enjoying them. Also this is good as I can experiment and improve on these the more I do them I have so far received some fantastic feedback.
Now I have looked at some of my work I can now see things I enjoy the most:
Paper
Collages
Animals
Grey scale
Pastels
feathers and other objects to add textures
Line art
I now need to work on these further and improve my ideas and concepts.
Next I have to choose one of the illustrations above and put it in to a authorial category that I think suits it :
I have decided on this whale illustration. It screams out children's publishing it can be aimed at young children and also attract parents with its bright colours to buy for their little ones to look at. I think I could create a good story with these characters (perhaps exploring the ocean or learning to swim) and keep the style all the way through the book. It has a baby style to it and is cute. The colours are also happy and this is perfect for a child to look at and enjoy while learning and observing its new world around them.
